The end of an era

The written word is one of the most interesting marvels humans have ever contrived. The earliest evidence of its appearance is over 5,000 years ago. Although humans had been speaking for tens of thousands of years prior to that discovery, it apparently took a lot of time to develop methods to permanently display words in written form.

Throughout history, writing has been one of the few sources we have to observe our past or predict the future. While words have also been used to desecrate and demean many innocent lives, it has also recorded pleas from the helpless and praise for the heroic. Novelist and playwright Edward Bulwer-Lytton certainly got it right when wrote the words, “The pen is mightier than the sword.”

Whether one carries a pen or a sword, it is vital to remember each carries a certain kind of responsibility. Just as one should not carelessly wield a dangerous weapon in public, those who call themselves writers ought to remember we are charged with a similar sacred duty. We cannot use words as ammunition recklessly aiming at anyone standing in our way. Over these last several years, I do hope that my articles have been able to maintain this standard.

For many years, Friday nights were spent completing the first draft of my articles. However, Friday night will begin to feel a little different from now on. It’s time for a change. My aim has always been to present ideas and expand them in ways that made readers think. More importantly, I have urged people to find solutions first by looking in the mirror rather than pointing at our fellow humans.

With that said, I will be featuring other writers who have expressed their views in thought-provoking and challenging ways as well. Pushing the limits and perhaps defying logic but always bearing in mind the tremendous responsibility we have toward our fellow human beings.

Occasionally, I’ll delve into the archives and revisit previous articles possibly uncovering more unique perspectives. Perhaps also penning a new thought from time to time that just can’t be kept silent.

It’s been a great run, and I appreciate all my readers and their comments. The time has come to focus more on reaching out to others individually and help them learn to heal and empower themselves to make this world a better place.

Words have been my solace. They will never cease to flow as long as I am capable of stringing them together in a cohesive and inspirational way. Lastly, it is only right to mention and dedicate my past work to my mother who not only edited my articles but inspired me to continue writing.

Thanks again for all the love and support and I hope to continue challenging you with these weekly posts.
